Welcome.
Welcome to the new website - Stadiafile 2.0. When I started Stadiafile back in 2012, I wanted to combine a childhood passion for sports stadiums with the skills I’d forged through my education in Art History and Architecture. What began as a written blog eventually morphed into the drawing project you see today. Stadiafile 2.0 will attempt to bring back a little of the old school Stadiafile blog, this written element where I will post ideas, inspirations and a variety of things happening around the sports, art, culture world that influences what I do - draw stadiums!
This painting by L.S. Lowry is a main inspirations for my drawings. It captures a playful, youthful approach to figures, Lowry’s famous ‘matchstick men’ and excitement of subject matter - going to a match. The dark figures, stadium stands and factory buildings stand out against the white ground plane to focus our attention on what’s important. The setting is outside the city centre of Bolton, raised above the eye level of the people and gives you a privileged view over the landscape outside of Burnden Park, home of Lowry’s childhood club Bolton Wanderers. Beyond we get an oblique view of the stand behind the end goal - this stand behind the goal is the stand that I focus on in my drawings.
